Morality and Ethics - Choices for a Happier Life

A freedom which exalts the isolated individual in an absolute way is common now in our current culture. By contrast, St. John Paul II, in Veritatis Splendor, argues freedom is only found through obedience to eternal law. How are freedom and obedience related? The difference in these freedoms lies in an understanding of what is good …and what every person deeply desires.

When people find out that I am a moral theologian, they usually respond in one of two ways: they either get uncomfortable and feel judged or they get weirdly excited about hearing my take on some obscure, far-fetched moral dilemma. Both reactions indicate a huge misunderstanding of what moral theology is all about. I can’t blame them, because I used to think the same way. In this talk, I will share my own shift in thinking about the Catholic Church’s moral teaching and why I decided to dedicate my life to sharing it with others.

But our secular culture has rejected God, our Christian Anthropology, and our basic biology. Is Gender Ideology credible? Can anyone change their sex just by thinking or feeling? When the doctor says you have a serious illness, you might have a lot of questions. What will become of me, and my family? How can I face this illness? What is the role of medicine at the end of our life? Why is this happening to me now, and perhaps most important, where is God in all this? Fr.
